New Downloads module for our site

Heya

As I promised, I have ported over a new downloads module which didn't work for this CMS out of the box anymore. I really like this download module and it will fix some issues I've noticed with the current built-in downloads module. Though there is one downside to it, namely it will make the site slower. I've noticed that this module uses a lot of database queries. I might be able to reduce it a bit but I don't have a hurry here. I think even though it uses too many queries, it's still ok at least for a site we're using here so I'll try it and see how it goes.

New features for the users:

Basically there aren't many new features to what we had before. The base is more or less the same but you can rate for certain downloads again (we used to have that already with an older version of our site) and give comments, you should be able to upload new downloads on your own with admin approval which would help me to get more downloads for our site without the need of me. UTMapPreview Module updated

Hey all

First, sorry again that there were issues with the site. The last server crashed too many times so we had to move to another server. I'm considering to move the provider so we have a stable site again. As you may have noticed, some posts are gone from yesterday so I have to post this news article again.

Anyway, that's not the reason for this article as the title implies. I've spent some time yesterday to update our UTMapPreview module which includes total integration with the site, making it faster, more secure and a bit easier for me to administer. As you can see, there is a new top navigation added to the module so you can more easily navigate to the desired page. There are 2 pages where you can select maps and preview a small thumbnail image. One is categorized into the gametypes and the other one is just all the maps in one list. There's also a changelog for those who are interested in the changes.

UT2004 Map Preview

Hey there

I've just updated our UT2004 Map Preview which was really needed. It has not been updated because that was raTTy's work and so he usually did it and after he left I've never really have made any changes there so I thought that it's time for it Smile

Now you should be able to preview all the maps which are available on our servers. Check it out and I hope it's any useful for a some but I think it's nice to have a place where you can check out some maps.

The images aren't that big to keep it fast and so I can keep the update time short. I think you should be still able to recognize at least most of the maps.

Hey there

Since I've removed the UT200x User Maps & Mods block, which was showing the latest user submissions on the atari forums, I always was looking for another solution to show that content which I had to remove due to bad performance caused by the block. I've added a new module where I can add news feeds from other sites and forums so if you got more useful xml, rss or rdf news feeds related to Unreal Tournament, let me know and I will add it. The module you can find in the Navigation under News and is called:

XML-RSS-RDF Reader

Now you are able to read news from other cool sites related to UT within a few clicks. Hope you like it Wink

Arcade Games added - Play Flash Games on our site!

I've installed a new Mod for our web site which lets you play some flash games Very Happy Some are pretty nice. It can store highscores and will notify if your highscore got beaten by another member.

You find a new link in the 'Main Menu' under 'Community' called 'Arcade Games'

So far I've added 136 games which you can now play. If you find more games which you like to have on our site, let me know. The file extension must be .swf otherwise it won't work. Also I've noticed that a few games didn't work related to the scores. It just didn't got stored but it was playable Confused

A few games, you have to click 'submit' or something similar, otherwise your score won't be added to the highscore list!

Well lets play.

evolved Systems Screenshot & Photo Gallery

Now we got our own gallery where you can upload your favourite screenshots and other pictures! Look under 'Community' for the new link 'Gallery'.

Note: The gallery is standalone which means it isn't completely integrated within this web site. It means that you cannot use your account from the web site to login onto the gallery. We might be able to implement the accounts from the web site into the gallery in future releases.

In order to be able to upload pictures, you need to register on the gallery site first. If you only like to view the pictures then it's not needed. It's possible that you won't get an automated reply after you have registered but I will keep an eye on it and will manually activate them if needed.

Check it out, I think it's pretty cool. It has some pretty nice features. You can find quite a lot screenshots already, check them out Smile.
