I've got a question about mapping, maybe someone could help out. I want to use the static mesh "RailingEnd" from the "EleganceHardwareBrush" package for building a fence. This StaticMesh fits only on the left site of my fence, not on the right side. Think it's possible to change this StaticMesh that it will match on the right side, but dunno how to do Question

Hey FMC

I haven't had time to look into it but I know that there are many static meshes which only work on one site because the other side is "missing". That way the static mesh as much less polygons and will improve FPS. Isn't there another fence in the same package which is for the other side?

Maybe raTTy can take a look at it, otherwise I will try to find some time and look myself Wink

Thats right so far.

Many static meshes are only one sided, cause normally you build them in, or better said, place them into a wall, ceiling or whatover. So you dont need to texture the backside.

In UED you have mirror button at your left. I think with this it should be possible. Never tried it so far, but if doesnt work i can have a look at it.

It can be, that you have to convert the SM into a brush (just rightlick it and search for converting).

And, dont forget, if you have coverted and mirrored it, convert it again into a SM, and include it into the MyLevel file, else nobody could see it, exept you make your own Mesh package for this Level : )

Thank you for your answers. I think my description was a bit inexact. The static mesh i want to use is the curved end part of a railing and it's textured and visible from all sides. This static mesh fits only on one side of the railing I want to build and the mirror tool doesn't help because it changes only the position of the part, not the part itself.
Well, I'll take a look if I find a railing in any other package..

You probably added it by accident. I also had similar things going on on my map lol. I recommend to do many saves while making a map and create for each step you go on with the map a new file so if something goes wrong you can easily go back and take a backup of your map.

well you also can resize static meshes. in the right upper corner you have the field X / Y / Z where normally "1" stands in.

for example give it a 0.5/2/1. Then its half as huge as normal in the X Axis, double in the Y Axis and normal in the Z axis.

hmmm...in my UED, those DrawScale 3D boxes are in the bottom right. Note you can also set them to negative values, which will mirror the smesh (or whatever) about that axis.
