Posted: Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:34 pm Post subject: [FEEDBACK] Web Site Performance |
|
|
Hey there
I would like to get some feedback regarding the speed of our web site. We have switched a few weeks ago and I think we can see already if it's any better or not.
You might need to know a few things first. When you load our web site for the first time, it takes rather long to load the site. That's because it gets all the content from the site without any cache. If you click the second time on any page beside the forum, you should notice a performance boost because now it will use also the cache.
Since the forum and the rest of the site is a merged product, you will notice the same behaviour in the forums (first page takes a bit longer, second page loads much faster -> again due to cache). If you now browse on our web site, it should be fairly fast.
Just to make it a bit more clear, the above information has nothing to do with our old or new host. It's more that you understand what takes some time and what not and also so you can better compare the performance between the hosts.
I think the site runs much smoother now. Usually it loads very fast, even if you load the site for the first time. I noticed that the generation of the pages dropped about 1 up to 2 seconds which is defenately an improvement. I also know that we now only share the server with 11 other customers whereas we had over 120 with the other host (that's why our site got so slow sometimes).
Well, let me know what you think. I will pass the information to the hoster as he is a good friend of mine Thanks. |

Thanks for the feedback
Yeah I know, the first load takes quite some time which is also because the home page shows a lot of information and due to the theme we use. No I cannot change that otherwise you would have outdated information all the time and also there would be other issues you don't want to have |

would be really nice if we could have control over what blocks we display.....or pherhaps could setup a custom page which shows just a few things that we choose? this would b really nice, coz it drives me crazy waiting 10 seconds for each page to load up, n my browser jumps all over the place while its loading so I cant just start typing for eg in the forum b4 its loaded.....mayb I'm just impatient but wuld b nice anywayz.......I dunno if phpNuke has this option...I seem to remeber somthing like it |

Hmm, I never have to wait long really and I browse a lot here lol. Well, I cannot really set it up that way unfortunately
Well maybe I can optimize it a bit, remove a few things or something. The shout box uses some resources and we could change it to the right side so it won't be executed if you browse the forums. Then another thing is the game server block which needs quite some time. Other than that there isn't much left which uses resources really. |

that would be really nice actually...to have the forum on a page with only the forum that really would make the site nice to use again! The forum is where I spend 99% of my time anyway, I dont mind having to wait a bit if I need to check other stuff, but I'm a speed-forum user, that likes to have 10 tabs open and ready to spam within 2 secondz hehe |

You cannot spam in the forums anyway There is flood control.
Check out some themes via your profile. I think there is a theme included which will remove all blocks if you browse the forums. Well for me, I like to have the left side while browsing the forums. Check if that makes much of a difference. |

Only wanted to show that your way to post here won't work as there is some flood control. I know what you mean
Have you tried some other themes? If you don't know anymore where to change it, take a look here:

| This site was always fast here. NP at all. But sometimes the lay-out is a bit messed up. This is when I use Firefox. In IE it is always good. |

Where do you see a messed up layout? I don't see it anywhere really. I'm using Firefox and IE regularly.
The gameserver block was an issue sometimes but that should be fine. Then where you could see some messed up layouts that's in the forums if people post huge images for example. The forum isn't able to resize certain images properly and then we have a messed up forum topic. Do you mean that or do you see it anywhere else? The new CMS I'd like to use will solve that issue as well though regarding the forums but it will take some time until we can use it. It's still in beta. |

| It could be because I was changing some stuff on the site. Yeah, a screenshot would help. |
