Heya
As you may have seen yourself, our redirect server isn't up since quite some time. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the redirect server is storing all our files such as maps, mutators, staticmeshes, textures, sounds etc. for fast download. If you miss a file which you will need while playing on our servers, you will download the necessary file from the redirect server without the need to disconnect. Because we use a public redirect server, our servers suffer quite a lot if the redirect server is down. The hoster meant that it should have been up a while ago already. They were upgrading some hardware but so far it doesn't look that they could bring back the server yet.
I would create my own redirect server since that isn't a problem at all. Though, I don't do it because it uses a lot of bandwith which I cannot spend unfortunately so we need to live with it or find a better server.
Well, I hope it will be up and running soon again but as of yet, it doesn't work so sorry if you cannot download those files. I'll post when I know more. Thanks. |

There is an alternative server you can use - it doesn't have as many files on it as gameservers.net but you could always upload any that are missing  I have switched to this redirect server recently and it works well.

Let me tell you a short secret : Mainly, on NO server, I mean on NO server maps take ages to download - on every single (no matter of game type), I think the master redirect connections are down by UT  . |

| Many use the one I use as well so you probably just also join server which suffer now from it. |

Well not everyone is using that redirect server.
Ok, I see that the server is up again but all the content is gone  So I have to upload quite a lot of stuff again but I hope that many will upload maps as well which we got on our server.
Since we have a lot of custom maps, this can take some time. I'll try to upload them ASAP. |

Well not sure but it didn't look like that. I'll check it out more when I got some time.
They had a crash in 2005 and we had to upload all our stuff again Looks like it's the same again which I don't hope of course. |

A bit offtopic:
Normally I haven't problems with missing files because I'm using a cache cleaner program. It seems that UT deletes files in the cache after some days or weeks, so it can happen that you have to download the same map ever and ever again. Look in how to save your downloaded files, there're also some links to cache cleaner programs.
AFAIK too many files in the cache folder can cause lag - another reason to empty it from time to time - I'm not sure about it though. |

It shouldn't cause lag but it's possible that files can cause incompatibilities. Sometimes you cannot join a server due to file mismatches or other things and then you should clear the cache.
If you don't want that your cache gets cleared automatically, you can set that in the UT2004.ini file:

| well on the lagg thing what does the cheat detection software when you join a server scan? cause when its scanning me it takes ages...is that not do 2 a large cache? |
