Ever heard of PhysX? That's a new processor which should lead to a new dimension in gaming physics performance.
| Quote: | | Things don't just look real, they act real and feel real. Massively destructible buildings and landscapes; explosions that cause collateral damage; lifelike characters with spectacular new weapons; realistic smoke, fog and oozing fluids are all now possible with the AGEIA PhysX processor! |
Here's their home page:
There's also a subdomain regarding the PhysX processor over here. Check out the footage as well:
UT2007 will support it so it might be interesting |

While it's an incredibly cool extension to your hardware-setup, $250 is way too much for me just to have more realistic physics.
I rather have the new Havok that uses the GPU to render more realistic physics. I know those cannot be fed back to the game so they're only graphical, but at least it doesn't cost anything extra. |

Yeah, it's a lot of money but it's not only more realistic physics. It will reduce a lot of perfomance on your graphics card and CPU, thus giving you something back because you may not have to upgrade those parts that soon again. Well, of course the software needs to support it first but if this becomes more popular and people want it, the price will drop as well and more games will support it. As of yet, there are about 60 games which supports it they say. Well, not sure if I will buy it but thought it's interesting |

looks intresting but ati or nvidia are doing somthing similar with there gpu also sony for playsttion 3 uses the same. Not sure thought that was hardware 2, and was doing the same thing really i gave no more thought to it cause nvida or ati would not have this produckt in there gpu boards till end of this year and before that we all have to have new hardware to run ut 2007 ...
i dont get what kinda card is it? it uses what bus? will it work with 2 cards in sli? how does it go about using the ram? cause the ram is well verry fastly used up by one normal gpu/cpu....
thre is not enough info on that site or is it just me?
well i would spend the mony if i could get it...and i got much more info then i have now. |

AFAIK, right now its a normal PCI card and later on it should be available as PCI-Express card. It shouldn't be a problem to install it into your system.
I also see that ASUS is comming with their own PhysX driven cards.
Well, I wouldn't buy it right now. It's too early IMO since there aren't many engines which supports that as of yet and because of the PCI - PCI-Express switch later on. Though, I will keep this one in my mind. |
