Heya
I'm experimenting a bit with the Main Menu on the left side. Would be nice to have it a bit smaller than it is now so I have tried to shorten it a bit by replacing the category with a dropdown box so you can select the available links there. I have already made the Community category a dropdown box now and moved Files & Links one up because I think that's a bit more important and useful to most.
I'm not certain if it's better to have everything within a dropdown box (well besides the Main category) or not. Or leave it as it is now so it's a compromise between having useful links available within one click and the rest within a dropdown box. I actually like to have the links available within one click and some don't like to have links everywhere so we have to see what our members and visitors like most because it's a site made also for them.

K, Yeah, I vote make more links available within a dropdown box.
But it would be nice if we could set it ourselfs. just like we can set how the sites looks.
So if i can take links i never use out and save up load time's.But i like it as you made it now as well also brings more over sight to our site IMO.
And you made a drop down box with the server links witch i hope can stay

Well, that won't work unfortunately because we are not able to do that. Would be nice though I know.
The join links will stay for now |

I don't like the dropdown boxes because I can't open those in a new tab. But since 95% of those links is pointless and never used anyway, I don't think it will matter that much.
Another tip to shorten the menu: Remove the entire Forum section, the links are on top of every forumpage, which should be more than enough.
And I advise you to lower the amount of visual content on each page, because I see that loading this page took a staggering 72 queries, which is (to say it lightly) rediculous for 1 page. |

Yeah the new tap thingy is a bit of a problem, I don't like it that much either because of that but joining server for instance doesn't need that anyway.
I also thought about the forum part and changed it to a dropdown box for now as well. There is also the option to make it as a dynamic menu so you can click on the category and the sub-links will appear. That way it would be small and you still could use right click to open it in a new window/tab. Let me know what you prefer.
The queries won't go down since most of the queries are cached even though there would be almost no content anymore. And as announced already, there will be an overall update coming which will improve quite a few things, also queries since the cache system has been rewritten and expect certain other performance improvements. I also will reduce content quite a bit so we only have the most important things at hand. Last and maybe most important thing is that such an update will take time and I will see how long I will have for it.
Just a tip for you too, if you don't use 95 % of the links, that doesn't mean that it's pointless... Might be pointless for you but some prefer this and others prefer something else. Having both options is usually best so that's why we got some links at different spots. Ou and stats show something else anyway so better you get a clue first before you open your mouth |

Ok, I've changed it to dynamic categories now so you can click on it and the sub-links will open below. Now you still can use the right click to open it within a new window/tab and the menu is reduced
Hope you like it. I think it's fine that way. |
