There was just a big launch and the developers are working on an expansion for the UT Series. We'll let you know as soon as there is something to announce.
Thanks for your patience. :)
Interesting to see it referred to as an expansion to the "UT series" rather than UT3 specifically.... let the wild speculation begin!
CARY, N.C. (November 14, 2008) – Epic Games, Inc. today announced that it has been recognized as the Top Industry Driven Technology Company of the Year by the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA). Epic Games received its award at the annual NCTA 21 Awards gala last night at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Cary, N.C. The NCTA 21 Awards are recognized as North Carolina’s most prestigious awards, celebrating excellence in leadership and innovation.
This accolade comes on the heels of Epic’s worldwide release of “Gears of War 2,” which sold over 2 million units in its first weekend at retail. Epic is known for its breakthrough “Gears of War” franchise, the multimillion-selling “Unreal” series of games, and Unreal Engine 3, the award-winning software development framework that serves as the technological foundation for many of today’s bestselling computer and video games.
NCTA’s 21 Awards program is segmented into five categories: technology industry, stage of development, functional, leadership and excellence. Epic received a technology industry award in the new category of Top Industry Driven Technology Company of the Year for Unreal Engine 3’s positive impact on the entertainment software industry.
Epic has licensed Unreal Engine 3 to esteemed game developers and publishers including Electronic Arts, Microsoft, SEGA, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, Square Enix and Activision. The engine is also used by world class architectural firm HKS to create functional 3D visualizations of architectural spaces like the new Dallas Cowboys football stadium and W Dallas Victory Hotel and Residences. In addition, Unreal Engine 3 is used to develop animated films and 3D training simulations for military, government and corporate initiatives.
“The 2008 NCTA 21 awards was by far our most competitive with an outstanding list of finalists and a group of award recipients who distinguished themselves through outstanding achievement and superior performance,” said Brooks Raiford, president and chief executive officer of NCTA. “I congratulate Epic Games for receiving an NCTA 21 award and for the passion to lead, innovate and create.”
“We’re honored to be recognized by the NCTA as an industry leader in technology,” said Dr. Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. “The other nominees are trailblazers in their respective fields -- for a game company like Epic to be singled out as the award winner is very flattering.”
The studio will continue its work on Fat Princess, as well as create original games and provide technical Unreal Engine 3 support to those that work with Epic Games China.
Titan's multiple UE3-powered projects include a massively multiplayer online game, of which no details were revealed. The studio's staff hails from a variety of developers, such as Ubisoft, Epic Games, Blizzard Entertainment and Lionhead Studios.
Titan was founded by Epic Games China, which controls UE3 licensing in Asia, and provides technology support to developers worldwide. Today's announcement suggests that Titan is a significantly larger studio than Darkstar was, with Epic noting that only "the core of the team" was known as Darkstar.
They've also compiled a list of "lost MSUC maps" which includes levels added to the Make Something Unreal site after the deadline for entries had passed.
"The secondary market is a huge issue in the United States," he said. "Our primary retailer makes the majority of its money off of secondary sales, and so you're starting to see games taking proactive steps toward that by... if you buy the retail version you get the unlock code.
"I've talked to some developers who are saying 'If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free'. We don't make any money when someone rents it, and we don't make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it..."
That's the word from EGM's "Quartermann" who writes in the mag's monthly rumour column that Bleszinski's next will be a "mix the bloody visceral elements of Gears of War with psychological terror."
That's the extent of the details Q-man is willing to give, only noting that the title is "multi-platform" — which we'll interpret to mean Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and (maybe) PC, not Nintendo DS and PSP.
Make what you will of that, though remember that the source of this is a guy whose job is to come up with rumors to fill a magazine column every month.
Basicly, Blue Moon Rising is a cooperative multiplayer survival horror. The team of marines has to fight back the hordes of zombies. We wanted to put strong emphasis on teamplay, so you always have to cover your team mates.

Jeff Morris Leaves Epic Games[ 1 Comment ] 5:56 PST | RaptoR | Print News | Category: Epic GamesEpic Games Community Support person Stacey Conley has responded to circulating rumors that Jeff Morris was no longer with Epic Games, confirming that the Unreal Tournament 3 producer has left the company.
Jeff has left on very good terms and he will be missed.
The company has put the issue down to driver bugs, rather than any "improper optimizations".
Our driver engineers have looked at the problem, and found that it had crept into the code due to the changes made to support AA on new UT3 engine based games. So the root cause of the problem has been identified and it will be addressed in a future driver. You should know that the UT3 engine does not normally support AA, but AMD has put a lot of effort into adding it, so that our users can benefit from improved visuals in those games using it. We had not received any Catalyst reports of the problem before this article was published.
During the last month several people in the 3DCenter Forum mentioned that current Catalyst drivers would embezzle certain graphics effects in Unreal Tournament 3. The game utilizes Pixel Shading to visualize certain distortions. This isn't used for displaying water but also makes glass and explosions more realistic. The problem: With current drivers the player won't find the slightest piece of realism with all the turmoil all around. Diagnosis: Catalyst A.I., Ati's "optimization” package, is accused to be responsible for the missing effects. Screenshots with deactivated Catalyst A.I. proof that this is true.
The full details can be found here, along with comparison images from earlier driver releases.
